This large and detailed history of the County of Lawrence begins with the topography and geology of the area. It contains chapters on the Indian nations, early settlements and early organization of the county and lengthy sketches of the City of New Castle. A complete chapter is devoted to businesses and manufacturers. Other chapters include the military, banks, the press, medical profession, education and township sketches. Although this volume contains a sizable amount of history, it is still generally devoted to biographies of early citizens.
