Description

The Bookbinders Workshop "Spine-Adhere" is an ingenious innovation to the craft of hand bookbinding. The tool is used to effectively apply (and hold in place) gentle downward pressure to the spines of books in the process of "re-backing" or covering with any material including cloth, leather, vellum, paper, or virtually any covering material. The Spine-Adhere comes complete with a soft cloth backing and Velcro strips applied to the boards, 2 pieces 12" long of each 1", 1 1/2" and 2" wide Velcro strips, 4' of cord to use when tying down raised bands.
Thank you for purchasing the Bookbinders Workshop SPINE-AD-HERE™!
Your kit includes:
2 SPINE-AD-HERE™ Boards
2 1” Velcro straps
2 1 ½” Velcro straps
2 2” Velcro straps
48” Tie cord (to tie down raised bands
Explanation of use:
The SPINE-AD-HERE™ can be used for applying (and holding in place) cover material of ANY type to the spine of both thin and thick books. It can also be used to tie down the raised bands on the spine after the cover material is applied.
After placing a panel on each side of the book, put the book and panels into a press or job-backer to hold them together as one piece. After laying a piece of protective paper such as wax paper, silicone release paper, etc to the book spine (to prevent adhering of the Velcro™ strips to the book spine), use both hands starting in the center of the book spine and gently pull down the strip and attach it to the Velcro™ strips on each side of the panels. IMPORTANT: Use EQUAL "right-left" pressure when gently pulling the CLOTH-lined strips over the book spine, or else the covering material on the spine could be pulled unduly one way or the other.
